In 1912, British explorer, naturalist, and author Aubyn Trevor-Battye tasked architects Inigo Trigs and William Unsworth with constructing his dream house in Hampshire, England. Impressed by the Alhambra, a grand Moorish palace in Granada, Spain, he requested a yellow stucco facade, a purple tile roof, arched home windows, and a deep connection to the encircling panorama. He requested for Tuscan columns and ornate, vaulted ceilings, too.
Over 100 years later, a lot of the unique options stay, which is why a household with three teenage kids not too long ago bought the historic property. “It was an absolute present of a home,” says Tamsin Saunders, the inside designer entrusted with sprucing up the place for the brand new homeowners. “It’s so beautiful.
